Why Different Styles Of Beach Shoes Are The Hottest New Summer Fashion Fad

One of the hottest new fashion trends in the footwear industry is the beach shoe segment. You don't have to even live near the beach to be able to enjoy and take advantage of this either. The beach shoe has changed immensely over the years and there are now huge varieties to choose from. Back in the day you only had flip-flops or maybe Birkenstocks to choose from.

Now in addition to the above you have the newly introduced Croc's, a multitude of sandals and more. Personally, I wear my Reef flip flops everywhere and just about all year long. Since I live on an island in Northwest Florida I wear them all year, even in the winter! Mine even have a bottle opener in the bottom which comes in handy when we're are out running around the island.

Another style of beach shoe that I wear when I am training on the beach is the mesh water shoes. These shoes give you protection from sharp objects but yet are very flexible and lightweight and one can even swim in them. I not only wear them for running on the beach, but also under my fins when I am diving or snorkeling. These shoes are an excellent choice if you are going to be doing exercise in the water or on the beach. Another great thing about these shoes is that they are very inexpensive.

Crocs are an extremely popular new addition. These lightweight synthetic shoes are popular all over the world and I see them every where I go. I just recently had surgery to repair a torn bicep tendon and a large percentage of the doctors and nurses at the hospital were wearing Croc's. I think that is a pretty good indication of how comfortable they are since those people are on their feet most of the day. I wear mine as an alternative to my flip flops when it is raining, but you just have to remember I am a big lover of flip flops.

Like other fashion apparel the type of shoes that one wears can tell a lot about a person's personality. For example my choice of my Reef flip flops tells you that I am most concerned with being comfortable and having a super casual style and that I don't care at all about impressing anyone with my fashion choices. These flip flops are extremely popular with surfers like myself and almost everyone I know owns a pair. The bottle opener on the bottom is a great conversation starter at parties. Everyone freaks out when I pull off my flip flop and open a bottle of beer.

People who wear Crocs are not only wearing them because they are comfortable but because they are a hot fad in the footwear industry at the moment. On the other end of the spectrum would be Birkenstocks. Those who wear these shoes are making a statement that they are into high quality and are not interested in following any trends.

Just remember to consider what kind of activity you are going to use the shoes for. If you are going to go for long walks on the beach and the beach is full of shells you may want to wear the above mentioned water shoes or Crocs. For just all around general use you may want to wear flip flops like I do. Whatever you choose make sure to go with quality so that they last and you don't have to replace them constantly.

How To Find The Best Flip Flops

Are you looking for casual, trendy clothing styles for the warm days of summer? Hollister Clothing offers informal, laid back styles for the trendy guys and gals. Offering an unfussy, casual clothing line as well as flip flops in many different styles. For about $15 you can purchase a pair of rubber flip flops, or if you're looking for something a little less casual, our leather flips flops are offered for around $30.00. For the young person or the young at heart, Hollister Clothing has something for you.

There is an art to trying on and purchasing the right pair of flip flops. First of all you need to find a pair that fits you properly and is comfortable. Stylish is important but no matter how stylish it is, if it does not fit you properly, keep looking! When you put the flip flops on your feet and stand in them take a good look at your feet. There should be at least _ an inch (1.27 cm) of sole visible all around your foot. If there is not then the shoe is too small. The flip flop should be slightly longer than your foot but not excessively so. The reason for this is that you do not want your toes or your heels to connect with the ground as you are walking.

It is important to pay attention to the strap on your flip flops, a strap that rubs the top of your feet can be uncomfortable and irritating to you. Beware of cloth or leather straps unless the flip flops fit you well, rubber straps may be more comfortable and fit better on your feet.

The strap on a pair of flip flops can either be a horizontal belt across the foot, or it can be a thong that attaches to the bottom of the flip flop between the second and big toe. If you decide on thong flip flops, make sure that the strap is comfortable on the tops of your feet and your toes.

Don't purchase thong sandals which make your feet flop over as you walk. That only indicates the footwear doesn't fit properly and can give you difficulties, particularly in striding briskly. As you walk in these sandals, your feet should point directly in front of you rather than at an outward or inward angle. Shift your weight from your heel to the ball of your foot. You really don't have to glide in order to hold the sandals on if they are the correct size and shape.

Be aware that flip flops are great accessories, not supportive shoes. Because they don't take proper care of your arches, for example, you can end up really hurting if you try to walk a few miles wearing only flip flops. Blisters can also result unless you minimize your time in flip flops.

The right kind of flip-flops to wear this summer

FitFlop Electra, $59.90, zappos.com

At last, the breezy days of summer are upon us. Instead of repeatedly checking the daily weather forecast to deliberate if we need a scarf or sweater for layering, we can enjoyably slip on some comfy shorts or an effortless sundress. For many of us, flip-flops become the go-to footwear to accompany such an ensemble, but as we’ve often been warned, these flimsy slip-ons do not always provide ideal foot support.

USA Today reports that Justin Shroyer, an assistant professor of kinesiology at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, studied over 100 flip-flop wearers to uncover patterns in their feet and leg movements. While presenting his findings at the American College of Sports Medicine's annual meeting in Baltimore this week, Shroyer explained some of the key problems with these shoes. Namely, he discovered that by trying to grip and hold flip-flops in place, people work the muscles in their shins much harder than when they’re barefoot. He said that shortened strides while wearing flip-flops can also strain the lower legs.

"The more the shoe conforms to your foot, the better off your foot and leg will be," Shroyer told USA Today. "If it's loose, your foot has to work harder to keep your flip-flop on." He said that more structured flip-flops with deepened heel cups and defined arches can remove some of the stress from your feet and legs, but that a sneaker is still preferred when doing extensive walking or activity.

Orthaheel Wave Sandal, $54.99, orthaheelusa.com

Dr. Rock Positano, director of the Non-surgical Foot and Ankle Service at the Hospital for Special Surgery, confirms Shroyer's findings. "With no real solid support underneath the foot, it loses its shock-absorbing capabilities. The lower leg, shin, knee, hip, and back are overworking." Dr. Jacqueline Sutera, doctor of podiatric medicine and surgery for the American Podiatric Medical Association, agrees with Shroyer as well. "Wearing flip-flops will shorten your stride, so your leg and foot muscles have to work harder," she says. "This causes the need for compensation--sometimes from your knees, hips, and back. This could be bad news for people with previous injury in these sensitive areas." In addition, Dr. Positano says certain pathological foot types (like high and flat arches) predispose people to foot and ankle issues, and that soft flip-flops with no support accentuate these mechanical deficiencies. Some short-term issues related to flip-flop use would be heel and arch pain, tendinitis, shin splints, sprains, splinters, cuts, and toe injuries. Long-term problems might be stress fractures, bunions, hammertoes, and neuromas.

Sole Platinum Sandal Sport Flips, $69.95, yoursole.com

As Shroyer suggested, "not all flip-flops are created equal," says Dr. Sutera. "The wider the straps, the better. Also, try to get a sandal with a back strap. Back straps take some of the stress off your toes and decrease the demand for them to work so hard." She agrees that a more contoured flip-flop is preferable. "If you have arch support and can cup the heel, then the foot may not pronate as much." (Pronation is when the arch flattens out when we place weight on the foot.) "There is a certain amount of pronation that is normal, but over-pronation causes many, many foot problems. I call it "the root of all evil."

When it comes to brands, some are better than others. Those ultra-affordable Old Navy flip-flops may be appealing and available in every color, but your feet will pay the price if you’re doing much more activity than sitting around at a barbeque. Dr. Sutera lists Crocs, Clarks, Born, Teva, and Birkenstock as acceptable brands for light to moderate use. For a higher end option, Dr. Positano is impressed with the offerings from Tory Burch, Chanel, Prada, and Bally. Here's a complete list of flip-flops given the APMA Seal of Acceptance.

Even with a comfortable flip-flop, you should limit your use to no more than a few hours of wear. "If you’re hanging around the pool or going to the beach it’s fine. They’re not going to kill you," says Dr. Positano. "Where people get into trouble is when they use them all day, walking around, and standing for a long period of time." The worst scenario, perhaps, is what Dr. Positano refers to as the "Disney World fracture." "You have a person who’s already walking more than they’re accustomed too. Pair that with foot gear with no support, and you have the quickest way to arrive at the vacation from hell. Trips are ruined because people develop stress fractures, knee problems, and hip and back problems."

Flipflops: Great FlipFlops To Wear

Flipflops are a popular shoe worn by many people in todays world. They can also be know as sandals or thong shoes. Flipflops became popular in the United States somewhere in the 19th century. There are records and history lessons that discuss many people wearing flip flap shoes. In Australia flipflops or thongs became popular in 1956 in the Melbourne Olympic Games. Hundreds of flipflops are in stores today and are sold very cheaply. Some flipflops can be very inexpensive but more designer flipflops such as platform flipflops can become more expensive. Many people decide to wear flipflops for their wedding, especially if going for a beach wedding. You can find wedding flipflops online at many different online retailers. There are many different retailers that sell flipflops. Some examples are D flipflop, Reef flipflops, Nike flipflops, Roxy flipflops, and Adidas flipflops. You can find many of these brands online as well as in stores near you. You can also fnd wholesale flipflops online as well.

Flipflops are very popular but not wthout issues. Many doctors and foot doctors do not agree with the use of flipflops. Flipflops can cause damage to your arches, increase the risk of leg injury and cause chronic leg pain. Alot of research has been brought to the attention of many people. You can do an online search to review testing results and see if flpflops may be right for you. Used moderatly a flipflop should not cause much pain or damage. You can also find insoles to stick inside the flipflops making it much more comfortable.

Men's flip-flops guide

If you are reading this you probably already know about the men’s flip-flops advantages over ordinary sandals. They are really simple built so you can’t destroy them easily (they have no parts which you can break). They are very open so your feet can breathe all the time and YES… even the bottom side of your feet during each single step. They simple make you forgot about sweaty, wet feet. Last but not least, they look fashionable, classy and cool. There could be only one reason why you don’t wear flip-flops yet - the lack of knowledge about all types of men’s flip-flops.
In this article I will show you that men’s flip-flops exist in so many shapes that you can easily compose them with your wardrobe in any life cases. I will start from the flip-flops designed to be part of you beach equipment and then move on to the more difficult areas.

Beach

There are 3 main things you should have in mind when you are going to buy flip-flops: sole and straps material, sole construction and overall design. The sole of the cheapest flip-flops are usually made from some kind of foam. This is not the best material because most of its forms do not give you enough support and amortization for normal movement. This kind of shoes you can use only on the beach or for very short walks. Soles of more expensive models are made from dense rubber and can be coated with leather or cotton. Avoid coated insole when you are choosing shoes for beach walks because they absorb the water which may cause discomfort. In addition, choose the rubber straps and you will have fully water resistant shoes. I don’t know what kind of flip-flops look you like but there is one brand linking current fashion, great comfort and patented sole material which allows you to walk miles without any problems. It’s called Havaianas and I strongly recommend you to buy their products because they really rock (I personally have some Havaianas flip-flops and believe me they are great in every aspect).

Casual life / city

There are lots of options you should consider while choosing casual flip-flops. I bet you’ve sometimes felt a bit confused seeing so many shapes and colors. How can I help you to make you choice a bit easier? Just remember about these basic things:
Match the color of your shoes to your clothes, especially the belt
Do not buy cheapest models if you plan walk more then couple of yards daily
Remember that leather is the best material in shoe industry and its classic look is always fashionable
If you would like flip-flops in some kind of fancy color check magazines and web if it’s not outdated. Don’t be afraid asking your spouse about current trends.
Listen to your heart, choose whatever you like (but ask some people for their opinion before you pull out your wallet)
My choice for casual flip-flop is leather model from the Reef or Chaco. Their products are reasonable priced, durable, and look classic. Leather flip-flops can be wearing in almost every occasion without worry about quality or design. Remember that if you are walking a lot you may consider models from outdoor category as casual flip-flops. If you want to look really cool consider buying designers’ shoes or… wear your Havaianas even in the city.

Outdoor

Yes, it is possible to go outdoor with flip-flops on your feet. You just have to choose the right model carefully. Maybe it will not provide you enough stability for real mountain adventure but it will do well in hilly forest areas. Look for solid, wide straps preferably made from water resistant material. Consider a shock pad under your feet which will make your long walks more enjoyable for your knees and allow you to travel further. Last but not least, search for good traction material (such as vibram) and shoe sole tread design to feel safe on the rocky terrain. I recommend you to start from looking what Teva and Chaco offer. If you’re afraid that your flip-flops can’t handle your adventure, both TEVA and Chaco can offer you one of the best sandals for outdoor purposes.

Indoor

For indoor you can use practically any shoes you want to, but I would like to let you know about special shoe made for that purpose. Let me introduce the Japanese zori flip-flop sandals. They are eco-friendly, exotic, very comfortable and they make your feet looking very good in women eyes. Just think about buying a pair for yourself to use during your bedroom adventures.

Casual vs Dressy Flip Flops

n the summer, everyone wants to wear shoes that are comfortable against the scorching heat yet stylish enough to look summer chic. And speaking of summer, what better time to don those ultra comfortable, ultra stylish flip flop sandals? Flip flop sandals started as a summer trend for beach or pool wear but were so comfortable and stylish that they quickly gained notoriety among women, and even men, of all ages and walks of life and were worn not only for casual activities but also for more formal occasions. From the original flat rubber sandals for purely functional purposes, flip flop sandals gained its rightful place in the world of shoe fashion and now come in more fabulous and even elegant designs, colors and materials to suit all personalities and tastes whatever the occasion is.
What to wear with flip flops have changed dramatically over the years, too. While most people follow the basic rules of fashion when it comes to pairing what with which, some people defy the law altogether and go with their own unique sense of style. Some make a strong fashion statement that leaves a lasting impression, while others simply fail and end up looking inappropriate and downright sloppy. Over the years, flip flop sandals have gone through a tremendous revolution from simple, casual flip flops to fabulous, glamorous dressy sandals. From the original flat rubber soles and plain design, the flip flops today come in more elegant styles and materials suitable enough for more formal events like parties and even weddings! It all comes down to a smart and sensible fashion sense to choose the right style for the right occasion looking fashionably chic yet ultra comfortable.
Flip flop sandals are categorized into two basic styles: casual and dressy. Casual flip flops are best worn in the summer and spring for its obvious comfort. Going to the beach or pool in soft, comfortable flip flops gives you the fun and relaxation you need while looking very fashionable in your sexy bathing suit or cute summer shorts and tank top. Going to the mall or doing your grocery shopping is more fun and stylish with a pretty pair of casual flip flop sandals to go with your jeans, skirt and cotton summer dress. Either made of rubber or other soft and comfortable materials, you can choose flat, mid-high or high casual flip flops depending on your mood or style. Either way, you look fun and flirty – definitely summer ready!
Dress flip flop sandals or dressy flip flops come in more elegant designs such as kitten heels and rhinestones, crystals and bead embellishments for more formal events like parties and even weddings. Wedding flip flops are the recent trend with brides changing into elegantly embellished white flip flops to look and feel comfortable after hours of non-stop standing, walking and dancing around in killer high-heeled wedding shoes. If you’re going to a party, pairing your party dress with a glamorous pair of flip flops with all the shiny and glittery accents makes a strong and unique fashion statement while achieving the comfort and style inherent in flip flops.

Flip Flop Your Way to Style at Hollisters

Are you looking for casual, trendy clothing styles for the warm days of summer? Hollister Clothing offers informal, laid back styles for the trendy guys and gals. Offering an unfussy, casual clothing line as well as flip flops in many different styles. For about $15 you can purchase a pair of rubber flip flops, or if you're looking for something a little less casual, our leather flips flops are offered for around $30.00. For the young person or the young at heart, Hollister Clothing has something for you.

Selection and purchasing the right pair of flip flops is more of an art than a science. Most importantly, it is necessary to find a pair that is comfortable and fits you properly. Style is also important, but is not a substitute for comfort! When you are trying on the flip flops take a good look at your feet while standing. All around your foot there should be at least an inch (1.27 cm) of sole plainly visible. The shoe is too small if this is not so. The flip flop should not be excessively longer than your foot. It should be only slightly longer which will prevent your toes or heels from touching the ground while walking.

Flip flops that rub the top portion of your feet will be uncomfortable and will do nothing but irritate your skin. Take note of the type of strap on the flip flop. In general rubber straps are more comfortable and fit snuggly as opposed to cloth and leather, but the latter can still fit fine if they are right for your feet.

Flips flops can either have a band across the top that goes from one side of your foot to the other, or they can be the thong sandal that separates the big toe from the second toe. If you choose the thong flip flop, make sure you buy one where the strap does not rub too much and chafe either one of your toes.

Do not buy a flip flop that causes your foot to 'hang over' when you are standing in them. If this happens then the flip flop is too big and could cause you problems when walking. Speaking of walking, when you walk in flip flops keep your feet pointed straight ahead as opposed to pointing outward like a duck or shoved together. Always walk from your heel to your toe. There is no need to slide your feet to keep the flip flops on if they fit the way they should.

If you are going out and going to be doing a lot of walking you should not wear flip flops. Flip flops may be easy to wear and seem to be the style now but wearing them can cause you to have have blisters and sore feet because they provide no support. So opt for running shoes if you plan to do a lot of walking to give you feet the support they need.

Beach Shoes Buying Guide

The segment of Men's Beach Shoes in footwear industry is one of the most popular in latest fashion trends. Even if you are not put up anywhere in the proximity of a beach you can still delight in this fashion trend. Designs of the mens beach shoe have changed over the period, and in the present market you will be spoilt for choice. Previously your choice was limited between Birkenstocks and flip-flops, but now Crocs has brought out an amazing amount of sandals and other types of beach footwear. Many people, especially those living on an island or near a beach, prefer to wear Reef flip flops, throughout the year, in all seasons. Some of these flip-flops even come with a bottle opener fitted on its underside, which is a very convenient thing to have, wherever you are on an island.

Apart from the swim suit, mens beach sandals have a major role in making a fashion statement and providing comfort. The huge variety of beach shoes and Men Fashion Shoes available in the market sometimes confuses a person, and making a choice becomes difficult. Keeping the following few points in mind will make the selection much easier.

1. Choose a style which is open, and which feels very light on the feet, like a flip flop or a thong. Such a style will provide good ventilation and your feet wont sweat, and at the same time be protected from hot sand.

2. Beach sandals usually have a back strap and having an elastic one is very convenient. If the up and down movement of the heel is not a botheration, you can go without a strap.

3. The material should also be anti-microbial, like the Crocs shoes, as it prevents fungus and bacteria from forming.

4. Rubber which is soft is an excellent material for a sandal, as it is cheap, durable and has a good comfort level.

5. Select a sandal with the width that matches you feet's width, as this improves the comfort.

6. Choose beach sandals that is extremely flexible, and which can be bent in any direction. Such sandals will feel very natural on your feet and you can hardly feel them.

7. Beach sandals can be emblazoned with the name and logo of your favorite team, and this will show your team spirit.

8. There are many ways you can personalize your beach sandals, for different events like sports meet, company trip or a reunion with the family. The underside of the beach sandal can also have a cut design which leaves imprints in the sand of a name or message.

Flip Flops - Funky, Fashionable, and

Flip Flops - Funky, Fashionable, and

There is something you may not know about those ubiquitous rubber-soled flip flops that emerge from millions of closets each summer. Also known as "jandals" or slippers, this footwear dates back more than 6000 years, although the term "flip flop" is actually a trademarked name belonging to German company who manufactures them. The Egyptians, especially the members of the royal and privilege classes, took great pride in their thong-style shoes. Upper-class Egyptian women adorned their sandals with jewelry, while the Pharaoh wore sandals that curved up more than those of commoners. We know about Egyptian flip flops from ancient cave paintings. Many other early civilizations use their footwear, including flip flops, to signify class position.

We might logically assume that because the shoes were worn by royalty, they would have been made from the best of materials. This, however, would be a mistake because flip flops throughout history have been fashion from an enormous variety of plant and animal materials, and even from wood! Rice, papyrus, palm leaves, canvas, and rawhide have also gone into flip-flops, with the choice of material largely depending on its availability in a particular culture. Egyptians may dare sandals of papyrus; the Romans, when providing footwear for their armies, made stronger flip flops of leather. Flip flops not only designated class; they were essential for protecting the feet and preventing diseases transmitted through the soil.

The basic flip flop style is that of a flat footed sandal wood-based draft securing it around a single toe. However, throughout history there have been many twists on that style. The choice of toes to which the footwear was attached has differed from culture to culture. Flip flops have been attached to the big, second, and middle toes.

The Japanese, to assist children in learning to walk, invented the woven "Zori" sandal. The Zori flip flop eventually made its way to the beaches of New Zealand in the early 1900s. From there, Zoris paved the way for the widespread introduction of flip-flops. They first made it to America with the return of World War II soldiers, and later arrived in rubber versions by soldiers returning from the Korean War. In the nearly 60 years since, the construction and durability of flip flops have made them essential footwear in popular culture.

Flip flops are so popular that they no longer signify anything about social standing. The army presence of flip flops on the beaches of California triggered a flip flop craze that extended across the entire US, making them the informal footwear of choice because of their remarkable affordability. That affordability has made flip flops ideal for third-world countries, where they can sell for under a dollar. Some flip flops are "green" footwear, being made from recycled tires and other disposables.

The flip-flops, like the blue jeans, of today have even evolved into design or fashion attire. Gold-accented British Havianas and other suede or leather jewel-decorated flip flops reside in many a Hollywood closet, where they wait to adorn the feet of both male and female supermodels and movie stars. They often show up at awards shows, and even at engagement parties on the feet of brides-to-be!

Flip flops have been around for centuries, and they are not going anywhere. They are shoes that can be used on both formal and informal occasions, and worn by people from all walks of life. They can be upscale fashion statements, and they can be the shoes you choose for that lazy day moping around the house. Flip flops, in other words, are affordable, attractive, comfortable, durable, and definitely here to stay!

Flip-Flops Examined For Performance, Impact

People who favor flip-flops as their primary footwear option during warm summer months may experience lower leg pain and a change in their stride, according to research presented today at the 55th Annual Meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) in Indianapolis.

"Flip-flops are very common, and this study began with the observation that most people appear to be wearing them beyond their structural limit," said Justin F. Shroyer, lead author on the study. "It's also apparent that individuals alter their gait while wearing flip-flops. Based on this, we expected to find that flip-flops may be a cause of pain in the leg or foot, and if so, would be counterproductive to alleviating that pain."

The study compared flip-flops to sneakers to assess the angles at which they impact the floor and the force at contact with the ground during walking. Researchers analyzed the gait of flip-flop wearers compared to their gait while wearing sneakers.

By compiling the forces that the foot is exerting on the ground, they found a statistically significant decrease in the vertical (straight-down) force in flip-flop wearers. This decreased force may explain anecdotal evidence that persons who wear flip-flops alter their normal gait and therefore may shed light as to why some experience lower leg pain.

"Flip-flops are not designed for prolonged use or for walking long distances," said Shroyer. "They lack the support that a walking or running shoe provides. Flip-flops should only be worn casually and for shorter periods of time. They probably should also not be a primary footwear choice."

Shroyer also noted:

- Some flip-flops on the market may provide more support, but are usually more expensive. For someone with lower-leg or foot problems, Shroyer recommends they limit their usage, and choose a flip-flop with more support.

- Flip-flops should be replaced often. However, many people claim flip-flops are the most comfortable when they are "broken in," just like a pair of sneakers. Flip-flops should be replaced every few months just as a runner would with running shoes.

Why Should Every Man Own A Decent Pair Of Flip Flops?
In hot summer months and warmer climates, flip flops have become a staple in a man's wardrobe. They are no longer just for beach bums, hippies, and teenagers. Rather flip flops have transcended into a comfortable complement to your daily attire. While I'm not saying that flip flops and sandals are appropriate for say, a business meeting, but for your leisure attire they are a godsend.

What Types Of Flip Flops Are Available?
The word "flip flop" may conjure images of the cheap rubber thong footwear of your youth, but today that is not the case. Now you can find flip flops made of leather, flip flops that have arch support, and even flip flops with a bottle opener on the bottom! In addition, flip flops are some of the cheapest footwear available! Prices range from a few dollars for the cheap polyurethane sandals you'll find at Wal Mart and Old Navy to around $100 for a pair of high quality fashion flip flops from OluKai. A decent pair will set you back around twenty to forty dollars.

What Flip Flop Brands Are Most Popular?
Currently, the most popular brands of flip flops are Reef, OluKai, Sanuk, Rainbow, and Quiksilver. And of these I listed, the Reef Fannings line is currently king. Reef Fannings flip flops cost around forty dollars, have a bottle opener on the bottom, are waterproof, and have arch support. This makes them one of the most comfortable, durable, and useful pairs available. Reef Fanning flip flops can be purchased in a variety of colors and materials from sports stores, shoe stores, surf and skate shops, and online (usually the cheapest option).

Why Men’s Flip Flops are Now Acceptable Summer Footwear

Why Men’s Flip Flops are Now Acceptable Summer Footwear

There was a time when sandals on men were strictly limited to men of a certain age wearing socks and Jesus sandals for a stroll when on holiday. The socks and sandals combo is a well documented fashion disaster and hopefully a faux pas of the past as men’s summer footwear has moved on to the perfectly acceptable men’s flip flops. Men’s flip flops are now at the forefront of summer footwear and depending on the style, they can be sported on a range of occasions, including a night out. Still not convinced? Then take a look at the reasons why men’s flip flops are now the only summer footwear you need.

Top designers specialise in men’s flip flops

You don’t have to make do with a £2.99 pair of men’s flip flops from a seafront shop as loads of the top designers are producing fantastic flip flops which look great and last for ages. Havaianas is one of the leading names in men’s flip flops and they specialise in creating sandals which are comfortable, stylish and which have a definite Brazilian beach party feel to them. Street wear designers such as Firetrap and Duck and Cover have also seen the potential in men’s flip flops and have designed collections which range from slender beachwear to chunkier looks which are ideal for wearing in a beer garden or sightseeing if you’re on holiday.

Your feet will be cool and fresh in men’s flip flops

Wearing trainers in summer usually results in hot, sweaty feet that have a certain pungency to them. Avoid the feeling of damp socks and slip on a pair of men’s flip flops to keep your feet looking and smelling fresh.

Men’s flip flops go with most outfits

OK so wearing flip flops with a suit is a look approaching ludicrous but there are a number of outfits that men’s flip flops look great with. They are the perfect solution for footwear to complement any kind of beach outfit from long linen trousers to combat shorts and even swimwear and they also look great with a pair of jeans and a simple shirt for a summary day time look. It’s definitely wise to avoid wearing men’s flip flops to the office unless there’s a majorly casual dress down Friday and your feet are fresh from a pedicure.

Men’s flip flops come in many shapes and styles

Flip flops have come a long way from simple, plastic thong sandals. While there are hundreds of basic flip flops available you should also consider adding a few variations on the traditional thong to your collection. Chunkier men’s flip flops which have material which crosses over the foot rather than between the toes are a good choice if your feet are prone to rubbing and if you want a more substantial sandal for a night out. There is a massive range of colours available in men’s flip flops from beachwear right through to beer garden blues and greens.

Men’s flip flops are fashionable and perfectly tasteful footwear that you can slip on throughout summer. Choose your new men’s flip flops from the range available at Reem Clothing.

FLIP FLOPS 101: A Guide To Men's Sandals

FLIP FLOPS 101: A Guide To Men's Sandals

Spring's coming and while women seem to know instinctively that this means open-toe shoes, they also know the difference between a strappy sling-back and a sophisticated mule. But guys are not so lucky, basically our experience with sandals falls somewhere between our ex-hippy college professors and the flip-flops you wear in the shower room at the gym.

But why should the ladies have all the fun? Sandals and flip-flops are rapidly becoming part of mainstream fashion culture for both men and women. Grapevinehill.com is here to help get guys up to speed.
LESSON 1: THONG SANDALS

What are they?
Despite the recent re-appropriation of the word to represent a women's undergarment, the thong is actually a traditional sandal with a single toe strap that goes between the big and second toe. The Japanese Geta is generally considered the forefather of the thong. While the cheap rubber shower shoes and flip flops are probably the most popular member of this family, men's thong sandals are moving up-market in style, quality and price.

Examples:
Tommy Bahama 'Anchor's Away' Leather Thong Sandals
Oakley 'Split Smoke' Thong Sandals

What they say about you:
Thong Sandals look great with shorts to complete a casual look. You can come off ultra laid-back with a pair of chinos or jeans for that tanned, fresh-from-the-beach look.

LESSON 2: SLIDE SANDALS

What are they?
Like thong sandals, men's slide sandals have undergone a revolution over the past few years. Generally defined as having one or two straps that go across the top of the foot, today's slide sandals come in many styles and forms. Technically considered "mules", slide sandals can trace their roots back in several directions to Europe, including the Dutch "klompen" clogs, and to French sabots.

The sport-style slide, made popular by European soccer players, remains a favorite and is often made of plastic and rubber. The more traditional styles, like the Birkenstock, are now often made with materials like Nubuc and/or synthetic microfiber to reduce wear. There is also a trend here to move up-market with better leathers, as seen in the slides from Bacco Bucci and more lug styles from Dr Marten.

Examples:
Birkenstock 'Arizona' Microfiber Slide Sandals
Dr. Martens '8B72' Leather Thick Strapped Slide Sandals

What they say about you:
"Where thongs [change to "thong sandals"] tend to be more whimsical, the dressier slides [change to "slide sandals"] come off as more serious. They work great with either shorts or pants and tell people that you've made a decision, a footwear style decision, you didn't just default to whatever was in your back seat."

LESSON 3: FISHERMAN'S SANDALS

What are they?
Fisherman's sandals are one of the most venerable pieces of footwear in the world: dating back as long as recorded history and found in just about every culture that eats fish. Most like a shoe, they generally offer a tighter fit and the most foot coverage of any member of the sandal-family. They have several straps across the top of the foot, a low slung but snug ankle strap and many come with an enclosed toe box to keep the foot in place. Traditionally brown or black, the Fisherman's sandal is now available in many colors, styles and price points.

Examples:
H.S. Trask 'Laguna' Sandals
Dr. Martens '8092' Leather Strap Style Sandals

What they say about you:
In other countries, the fisherman's sandal is as common as a pair of tennis shoes is for westerners. But in the U.S., the fisherman's sandal is a mature persons' sandal. Not old, but mature. It says 'I've arrived, I don't care what you think, I am comfortable and stylish.'"

LESSON 4: SPORT SANDALS

What are they?
Sport sandals probably evolved from the Fisherman's sandals and were popularized in the late 90's by Teva, but they still remain quite popular today. Men's sport sandals generally have a snug fitting strap across the toes, one that goes around the ankle as well a durable rubber foot bed that is often contoured to fit the foot. Originally created for outdoorsmen who would find themselves in ponds, rivers or streams, these multi-function sandals are usually made of all synthetic materials or new waterproof leathers, and are designed to provide traction on wet ground and to dry quickly. A near cousin of the sport sandal is the golf sandal, which feature all of the above with a studded bottom.

Examples:
Teva 'Terra-Fi' Waterproof Sport Sandals
Orvis 'Manchester' Leather Sports Sandals

What they say about you:
Wearing a pair of 10-year old sport sandals (you know the ones I mean) identifies you as having grown up in the 90's just like an old pair of Birkenstocks would for a child of the 60's. But with some of the newer designs and manufacturers, you can look good and still tell the world that you'd rather be in the woods.

LESSON 5: DRESS SANDALS

What are they?
Dress sandals are usually a high-end designer style and built for fashion over comfort. While most are comfortable and durable, they would place form over function in the list of priorities. Men's dress sandals come from a variety of top designer names and can range in prices from 30 to 200 dollars. They go anywhere you would expect them to in the warm weather, from a cocktail party in South Beach, to a wedding on Nantucket. Designer dress sandals are a sophisticated way to keep your feet as cool as your company.

Examples:
Medium 'Buddhist' Leather Dress Sandals
Oakley 'Box Crater 2.0' Leather Slide Sandals

What they say about you:
Dress Sandals are the top of the sandal food chain. Look at it this way, women love shoes, they love men who choose nice shoes even more, and a man who can look great and feel comfortable in a pair of designer sandals is going to do well with the ladies. If you can get past your buddy's jokes, you will be amazed at how your reputation for being stylish will flourish.

CRIB NOTES
10 Rules Every Guy Should Know About Wearing Sandals This Spring

1) Trim the Talons You don't need to get a pedicure, but keep your toenails well groomed. Your razor-sharp eagle claws are not attractive.

2) Keep it Clean: This should go without saying, but probably needs repeating in the summer months. Keep your feet clean.

3) Rock 'em Sockless: Unless you're David Beckham and you're going onto the pitch at Manchester United - or you really don't care what women think - don't wear socks with sandals.

4) Beach 'em: Leave the cheap flip-flops at the beach or the gym shower. Opt for a nicer, dressy pair when heading out.

5) Pack A Pair: Keep an extra pair of sandals in your briefcase, laptop bag
or backpack. They don't take up much room and offer many stylish options for quick change of pace after work.

6) Don't Skimp: Cheap flip flops are everywhere these days, but your feet, knees, and ankles will thank you if you avoid buying your sandals at the gas-station.

7) Be Foot-Smart: If you're going to a bar where there is likely to be a lot of broken glass on the floor, opt for some casual or sports shoes.

8) Walk the Walk: Consider if you'll be walking a lot and the terrain you might be on. Women seem to be able to walk anywhere in heels, but guys have a tough time walking in sandals if they aren't used to them.

9) Sack the Socks: Did we mention that you should NEVER wear socks with sandals?

10) Matching Still Matters: Just because you're wearing sandals doesn't mean you can forget about matching everything else you've got on. There are plenty of colors and styles to choose from so make an informed style decision.

Why flip-flops are more popular than sandals

Why flip-flops are more popular than sandals

The flip flop originated from the sandal, the first footwear humans ever invented which has stood the test of time through the centuries. People over the years used various materials like leaves and straw to give a better hold and add more wear ability to the flip flop. From the first Egyptians who wore flip flops to their spread in the Western world, the humble flip flop's popularity remains undiminished. The name originated from the "flip flop" sound they made as you walked in them.

The words that come to mind when you think of flip flops are comfort and practicality. For that hot summer's day at the beach nothing is more wearable than the flip flop which protects the sole of the foot and also gives the cushioning comfort to protect against different surface textures as you walk. You do not have to worry about tying intricate straps or closing fiddly buckles that some fashion sandals have. This makes the flip flop an accessory that is both practical and easy to slip on, especially when you are in a rush to get on with the day.
The ideal flip flop is one which does not come with a heel but the thickness of its sole varies to create versatility for the wearer. If you prefer wearing heels you can get flip flops with wedge heels or which have a kitten heel to give you that extra height but then the line between the flip flop and the sandal merges and you can say that you are wearing flip flop sandals.
To be able to lounge around the home in flip flops becomes almost synonymous with relaxation. The first thing you do when you come home from work is slip into a pair of flip flops and they do not have to boring. The different colours and styles of flip flops change with every season and gradually they have moved away from being just a bedroom accessory to one that can be easily worn outdoors as a fashion accessory. Not just plain and simple, nowadays flip flops come adorned with jewellery and rhinestones and you can wear them in more stylish evening settings or even for beach weddings.
From the Western populations to the Japanese, Indians and the Africans the popularity of flip flops continues to grow worldwide. They are also called different names like beach walkers or thongs. Different cultures have added their own version to the flip flop and while the Africans enjoy wearing the rubber flip flop the Indian flip flop is made of leather and is more decorative. Their appeal is not just for women but extends to both men and children and neither are they restricted to one age group but both young and old can enjoy wearing them.
Gradually they are being introduced into the sports market and cork and leather have been combined to produce weatherproof flip flops. There is an element of environmental friendliness about flip flops as they are easy to manufacture using simple materials. Wearing them not only makes the person feel comfortable but also gives a feel good factor to the wearer. From the college student who wears flip flops for comfort to the businessman who likes their versatility, it is a matter of choosing your own individual style from the large number of designs available in the market.

Flip Flops

Flip Flops

I believe that the world is split into two sorts of people: those that wear flip flops and those that don. For the previous denotes a kind of relaxed lifestyle and its experiences, while the latter stays resolutely restrained in the closed realm of work, duty and -week vacations.

Flip flops, a minimum of within the West, are an everlasting symbol of summertime, the place lazy Saturdays spent going to the local swimming pool or washing the car blended into one lengthy afternoon. Donning a pair of flip-flops was much less a press release of one wealth than a press release of one nicely-being. For no one can be in a rush wearing flip flops, and they can rarely be anticipated to an urgent appointment with a little bit of plastic and rubber wrapped to their feet.

Though we are perpetually striving for an ergonomic very best for our backs, arms, ankles and arches, if you are fortunate to personal a pair of flip flops, it is advisable to look no further. Flip flops chill out the physique, thereby allowing the arms to swing freely, the shoulders to loosen up, the knees to bend, and the toes to unfold out. They are the ultimate leisure treatment, and can be purchased at your native drugstore for fewer than ten US dollars (a snip!) ?the monetary equal of five minutes at the chiropractor.

Flip flops are also glorious ameliorants towards altering your way of thinking from exhausted, work-related despair to joyous, unbridled contentment. The moment I kick off a pair of oxfords, take off my socks and slip on a pair of flip flops, worries and tensions grow to be a factor of the past. I am immediately transported back to the days of school breaks, lengthy holidays, and poolside lounging. What matter that it is mid-winter and I have the heating cranked as much as 80 degrees? My flip flops set the stage and I am willingly dressing the part.

Transferring to Africa helped to alleviate the societal pressure of wearing what will be termed as normal?shoes. I might exercise the freedom of choice, and would not be judged for choosing the most affordable and most enjoyable type of footwear. I used to be not pressured to pay absurd amounts of cash for leather boots, overpriced tennis sneakers or tottering excessive heels. As an alternative, I wore vivid inexperienced rubber flip flops purchased at the native village market. They had bright red balloons decorated throughout them with blue spots indicating the place the toes ought to go. They were audacious, outlandish, and completely suitable for strolling on sandy roads in the searing heat. They withstood saltwater, sea air, muddy streets and long treks via the bush. And the fantastic thing about it was, everywhere I turned in Africa, at any time of the 12 months, in many locations and professions, the flip flops prevailed. And the folks sporting them had the straightforward, laid-back attitude that seems sadly lost to those distant summers of youth.

I wish to say that I lastly found the flip flops I had been looking for all my life, however it seems that that they had lastly found me.

Summer Flip-Flops May Lead to Foot Pain

Summer Flip-Flops May Lead to Foot Pain

Flip-flops are a mainstay of summertime footwear, but they can be painfully bad for your feet and legs, new research shows.
Researchers from Auburn University in Alabama studied the biomechanics of the flip-flop and determined that wearing thong-style flip-flops can result in sore feet, ankles and legs.
“We found that when people walk in flip-flops, they alter their gait, which can result in problems and pain from the foot up into the hips and lower back,” said Justin Shroyer, a biomechanics doctoral student who presented the findings to the recent annual meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine in Indianapolis.
For the study, the researchers recruited 39 college-age men and women and asked them to wear flip-flops or athletic shoes. They then had them walk a platform that measured vertical force as their feet hit the ground. A video camera measured stride length and limb angles.
Flip-flop wearers took shorter steps and their heels hit the ground with less vertical force than when the same walkers wore athletic shoes. People wearing flip-flops also don’t bring their toes up as much as the leg swings forward. That results in a larger angle to the ankle and a shorter stride length, the study showed. The reason may be that people tend to grip flip-flops with their toes.

What are Flip Flop Slippers?

Flip flops and slippers are house shoes with a lot in common. Both are easy to put on and take off, serving as an easier alternative to most other styles of shoes. Both slippers and flip flops are designed for comfort, and they are also great for those who generally dislike wearing shoes. While slippers are generally worn indoors and flip flops are generally worn outdoors, flip-flop slippers can be worn anywhere.
Flip flops are very simple footwear made of only a strap and a sole. The soles are often spongy, absorbing the weight of the wearer’s foot. These shoes are great for warmer days, windy days and trips to the beach, since the open nature of the shoe allows the foot to get cool air. They are also often the cheapest footwear available.
Flip flop slippers attempt to improve the flip flop design by covering the flip flop with soft and comfortable material. The materials used for creating flip flop slippers includes sheepskin, hemp, wool and yak. Unlike the rubber that is used to make traditional flip flops, flip flop slippers are often made out of biodegradable materials, making them far more environmentally friendly. This footwear is much more comfortable than shoes, making them great for wearers relaxing in their pajamas.
Sheepskin is a very popular used for the creation of these slippers. Sheepskin is resistant to fire, electricity and cold temperatures. Sheepskin is also great for those who suffer from allergies. Some sheepskin is also chemically altered to make it resistant to moisture, which is great for flip flop slippers. Wearers can finally wear their slippers outdoors without worrying about damaging the slipper’s material.
One of the consequences of the added flip flop slippers material is the price. These slippers cost much more than flip flops generally cost. The lowest flip flop slipper price is usually around $20 US Dollars (USD), while most slippers were around $60 USD. They are often dyed with feminine colors, making them great women’s slippers.
Many flip flops are not healthy for their users’ feet. The flat nature of flip flops makes them very bad on the arch of the foot, possibly antagonizing injuries or pain related to flat feet. Flip flops are also bad for the tendons of the foot. Flip flop wearers should wear something else when they are in an environment where the feet need to be protected.

Summer Shoes: Flip-Flops Aren't That Easy on the Feet

Summer Shoes: Flip-Flops Aren't That Easy on the Feet

There's trouble afoot with flip-flops. These popular summer shoes protect arthritic knees, but for those of us who do not have arthritis, they can spell trouble.

Since the days of the ancient Egyptian Queen Cleopatra, people have worn soles-only shoes connected to the feet with a strap between the big toe and the second toe. Also called thongs, slip-slops, slaps, slides, and zoris, these shoes have been the traditional footwear of choice for days at the beach or days at home when it's just too hot to wear shoes. If you ask any flip-flop fan why they choose these shoes, chances are you will get a very simple answer: Comfort.

Flip-flops let your feet breathe. They don't harbor athlete's foot fungus, and they don't get smelly. It's even possible to find designer flip-flops. Gucci makes flip-flops in Italian leather that is cushy, comfy, and stylish.

Flip-flops flunk examination by podiatrists. The problem with flip-flops is that they easily sail off your feet. This means that wearers of flip-flops tend to take tiny steps, and they don't hit the ground with the full force of their feet. Flip-flops don't support the arches, and people with flat feet, especially, can experience pain in the ankles, legs, and knees.

Even people who do not have flat feet can have problems with flip-flops. The strap holding these shoes to your feet has to be grasped by the toes. This means the wearer cannot take as long a step, and the ankle has to go through a wider angle of motion. The connective fascia at the ankle can pull on muscles all the way up into the hips, causing real pain after flip-flops have been worn while walking on grass, or in athletic competition.

Flip-flops flying away. The loose and comfortable attachment of flip-flops to the feet also means it's easy to get them caught on something. If you are walking across hot pavement, you can experience a painful burn to the soles of your feet if the tar in the asphalt pulls your shoes off your feet. If you have an ankle injury, the act of slipping your foot into the shoe can make the injury worse, and if you have diabetes, you may not notice the blisters that can form at the strap between your toes until they have become infected.

Times when flip-flops are the healthier footwear alternative. There are times, however, when flip-flops are clearly the healthiest form of footwear. It's a good idea to wear flip-flops when you go to public changing rooms and showers, to avoid picking up fungal infections and the much more serious MRSA. Flip-flops are used by some branches of the US and European military services to prevent the spread of foot diseases.

People who have arthritic knees often find that flip-flops greatly reduce pain, for the same reason that people who have ankle problems may find that flip-flops increase pain. Although the ankles go through a wider angle of motion, the knees go through a narrower angle of motion, and there is less stress and less pain. Most arthritis specialists, however, do not recommend that knee pain sufferers wear flip-flops all the time.

Choosing among the summer footwear alternatives, flip-flops, sandals, and going barefoot.
Flip-flops, of course, are just one of several choices for summer footwear. It's also possible to choose sandals, which are strapped to the foot, and much less likely to come off. Or one might just go completely shoeless, choosing bare feet. What are the differences in the health impacts of these summer shoe choices?

•    When you go barefoot, the middle of your foot strikes the ground as you walk or run. When you wear shoes or sandals, the back of your foot strikes the foot at you walk or run. And when you wear flip-flops, the front of your foot is more likely to contact the ground first. If you have injuries to specific parts of your feet, you may prefer one summer footwear alternative to the others, depending on where the injuries are.
•    When you go barefoot, your feet tend to turn to the sides to give you more traction. When you wear shoes of any kind, your feet tend to move forward without turning outwards. If you have a problem with your feet turning outward, don't wear flip-flops. If you have a problem with your feet turning inward, wear flip-flops when you can.
•    If you wear socks with sandals, you protect the soles of your feet from fungal infections, but fungi still penetrate your socks at the sides of your feet. If you don't wear socks at all, simply rinsing your sandals or flip-flops with cold water after extended use will remove many of the attached athlete's foot fungi--but be sure to dry your footwear before you use it again.
•    If you step on a sharp object while wearing rubber flip-flops, both the object and the rubber from your shoes may become imbedded in your feet. Both have to be removed for complete healing of your foot.
•    If you are allergic to latex, you may develop a rash where the flip-flop strap is in contact with your toes if your flip-flops are made of rubber.
•    Constant gripping of the flip-flop strap can result in the development of hammer toes.
•    A pain in your ankle may be an early warning sign of Achilles tendonitis, which can make walking difficult for weeks or months. Achilles tendonitis usually does not respond well to over-the-counter pain relievers.
•    Don't forget to put sunscreen on your feet. Exposed skin on your feet can burn, too.

Wear the right shoes for every occasion. There's no doubt that flip-flops are great for walking on the beach. They're not good for taking a mountain hike. And don't wear the same pair of flip-flops day after day. Even flip-flops can accumulate athlete's foot fungus and infectious bacteria, and once your flip-flops have softened up enough that you can roll them into a ball, they don't offer enough support to protect your feet from rocks, sharp objects, and falls.

There is one time flip-flops will always fall flat in terms of foot health. That's when you walk across any ground that may be contaminated with pesticides, herbicides, or animal or human feces or urine, or if you or your neighbor's pets have been infected by worms. The comfort you feel on your feet just is not worth the risk of parasitic infection or chemical burns. Wear regular shoes when you must walk on contaminated ground.

Flip Flops - The New Wedding Fashion

Flip Flops - The New Wedding Fashion

The easy slippers in the 70s and 80s were rarely worn not in the houses. Today, with some added designs, they have turned into what we call flip-flops. Teenagers and some young adults who are so peculiar in route they dress are wearing flip-flops outside of their houses as a fashion statement, even in some formal occasions.

For example, try checking out people going to weddings. Brides aren't obliged to wear high heeled shoes, but are open to new styles of shoes. Recently, flip-flops for Brides has become an "in" thing as they are recommended by people in charge of preparing weddings and even couples themselves, with the rise of weddings that are held not in a conventionally formal and tight wedding, but a more open atmosphere.

Usually, bridal flip flops are worn on weddings held on the garden or on the beach setting. The relaxed feeling in wearing the flip flop allows a more impulsive wedding atmosphere compared to a tight one when wearing a formal high-heeled shoe.

With the rise in its reputation, flip flops are now produced differently to take in many more occasions, not only weddings, but also formal ones. Thus, bridal flip-flops are made even better with the focus on fashion, class and time.

When partners visit shops specializing on weddings, they can easily find selections on flip-flops for weddings, for the bride or groom. Some come in unpretentious, but graceful styles.

Others come in full full of add-ons such as valuable stones or sea shells. The ladies desire the contrast the stones give to a wedding white dress.

Just like any apparel, they may be dressed with beads, sequins, buttons, and other items. The bride may choose the color for her flip flop, while other matching colors for her entourage are also available.

Experience the freedom with Flip flops

Experience the freedom with Flip flops

Sometimes you need to go for casual footwear that is comfortable at the same time. Thongs, slip slaps, double pluggers, slippers, flip flops, toesies all fall under this description. These shoes have a flat sole with a Y-shaped strap that passes between the big toe and the second toe. Amongst these flip flops are very popular. They do not secure the ankle unlike sandals though. Flip flops have a thin rubber sole. There are two straps connecting the join between the big toe and the adjacent toe stemming from the sides of the foot. Flip flops are mainly worn in a warm climate and its outdoor wear has spread throughout the world. The countries where it is worn mostly are New Zealand, Brazil, the Pacific Islands, Australia, India, Panama, Southeast Asia and USA.
Rubber flip-flops are very common in most developing countries. The cost of making these shoes has been reduced by making them out of recycle tires. These shoes can be repaired by street vendors as well for a small fee. Flip flops usually have the status of annual or seasonal, short lasting footwear in developed countries. Some of these shoes last a year or less depending on the material makeup of the shoe. After some use, the strap between the toes can break. A solution has been devised by employing replacement straps that are conveniently “snapped” into the flip-flop. Still, since these shoes are not very expensive, many people buy new pairs instead of repairing them.
If you enjoy being barefoot then Flip flops are ideal for you as they allow the foot to be out in the open but can be worn in places such as city streets or restaurants. There is a wide array of patterns and colors to choose from in Flip flops. So how about checking the range in outlets or online today?

Men’s summer shoes – Flip flops, thongs and Crocs

Men’s summer shoes – Flip flops, thongs and Crocs

Sandals are open, flat men’s shoes worn in the summer months and in warm weather.  We include flip flops, thongs and sandals in the same category.  They can be a staple in any man’s summer wardrobe which should include at least one pair of each!

Flip flops generally describe holiday shoes made from synthetic materials.  They have flat soles with a Y shape piece of fabric worn between your big toe and your next toe.  They are incredibly versatile shoes and you can choose from a massive range of colours and fabrics. They can be worn on the beach and are handy to kick off and leave at the edge of the beach while you take a dip.

We use the term thongs to describe more substantial leather type shoes.  They are the same style as flip flops, incredibly comfy, light to wear and light to pack in your luggage.  This is a bonus in a climate where airline prices and luggage charges are increasing. Birkenstocks have a good choice in men’s shoes and include an excellent choice of men’s thongs. The soles are designed for extra comfort and let your feet breathe.

Sometimes a style or brand of men’s shoes will become extremely popular and fashionable.  This has happened to Crocs. It’s now quite common to see a pair of Crocs amongst men’s Casual shoes. And it’s not surprising their popularity has grown over the last few years. Crocs are ergonomically designed, lightweight and antimicrobial- this means the shoes will help stop the growth of bacteria and fungi.  They are fantastic shoes to wear at the beach; excellent in a hot environment such as the Caribbean or just to wear for a day out at your nearest seaside destination. One pair is never enough. Buy a pair for walking along the promenade and another pair for walking around the local bars and taverns.  Crocs are fun and fashionable.  They are affordable, comfortable and can be washed, making them perfect men’s shoes.

Flip flops can damage your health

Flip flops can damage your health

Perfect for hot weather, they have been the fashion hit of the summer.
But doctors have warned flip flops can be as bad for your health as they are for your career.
Business chiefs said last month that wearing them to work was an invitation to be sacked.
Now medics have joined the attack by saying they can lead to joint pain, shin splints and twisted ankles.
Mike O'Neill, a Windsor-based foot surgeon who regularly treats patients with flip flop injuries, described them as 'dangerous'.
'Wearing flat shoes stretches the calf muscles hugely if the wearer is used to wearing a heel,' he said. 'It strains the achilles tendon and the back of the leg. Pain can start to develop after two weeks.'
He said the single thong between the toes offered the wearer 'no support'.
Doctors recommend that flip flops should be saved for the beach and replaced with shoes with backs or proper straps to hold the foot in place. Figures show that 55,100 men and women went to hospital with flip flop-related complaints in 2002.
Harley Street foot surgeon Barry Francis says he sees six patients a week with flat shoe injuries. 'The problems are down to overuse,' he said. 'When people wear flip flops all the time they are constantly scrunching their toes up into a claw.
'That can cause problems such as tendonitis and even shin splints. People go to work in them and stand in them all day. They are also extremely unstable so you are more likely to trip over and hurt yourself.
'Every shoe fashion causes problems to an extent although this one seems to be taking a while to subside.'
Another doctor reported a spate of injuries among women wearing another 'danger' shoe: the high heel.
'Women are dressing differently and a lot of them are coming in with high heel shoe injuries,' said Dr Rupert Evans, of the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. 'It has definitely been caused by the good weather, women being out and about and drinking more in the evenings.
'If a woman is tipsy and wearing a high heel she will be unstable. In the event of a fall the damage will often include a dislocation of the ankle, torn ligaments and even a break. These injuries are the equivalent of a serious injury from a rugby tackle.'
A spokesman for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents said: 'In this hot weather having your toes in the open air is obviously very attractive but people should be aware of what they are doing and where they are going as they are not suitable for every situation.'
