Flip Flops - The New Wedding Fashion

Flip Flops - The New Wedding Fashion

The easy slippers in the 70s and 80s were rarely worn not in the houses. Today, with some added designs, they have turned into what we call flip-flops. Teenagers and some young adults who are so peculiar in route they dress are wearing flip-flops outside of their houses as a fashion statement, even in some formal occasions.

For example, try checking out people going to weddings. Brides aren't obliged to wear high heeled shoes, but are open to new styles of shoes. Recently, flip-flops for Brides has become an "in" thing as they are recommended by people in charge of preparing weddings and even couples themselves, with the rise of weddings that are held not in a conventionally formal and tight wedding, but a more open atmosphere.

Usually, bridal flip flops are worn on weddings held on the garden or on the beach setting. The relaxed feeling in wearing the flip flop allows a more impulsive wedding atmosphere compared to a tight one when wearing a formal high-heeled shoe.

With the rise in its reputation, flip flops are now produced differently to take in many more occasions, not only weddings, but also formal ones. Thus, bridal flip-flops are made even better with the focus on fashion, class and time.

When partners visit shops specializing on weddings, they can easily find selections on flip-flops for weddings, for the bride or groom. Some come in unpretentious, but graceful styles.

Others come in full full of add-ons such as valuable stones or sea shells. The ladies desire the contrast the stones give to a wedding white dress.

Just like any apparel, they may be dressed with beads, sequins, buttons, and other items. The bride may choose the color for her flip flop, while other matching colors for her entourage are also available.

Experience the freedom with Flip flops

Experience the freedom with Flip flops

Sometimes you need to go for casual footwear that is comfortable at the same time. Thongs, slip slaps, double pluggers, slippers, flip flops, toesies all fall under this description. These shoes have a flat sole with a Y-shaped strap that passes between the big toe and the second toe. Amongst these flip flops are very popular. They do not secure the ankle unlike sandals though. Flip flops have a thin rubber sole. There are two straps connecting the join between the big toe and the adjacent toe stemming from the sides of the foot. Flip flops are mainly worn in a warm climate and its outdoor wear has spread throughout the world. The countries where it is worn mostly are New Zealand, Brazil, the Pacific Islands, Australia, India, Panama, Southeast Asia and USA.
Rubber flip-flops are very common in most developing countries. The cost of making these shoes has been reduced by making them out of recycle tires. These shoes can be repaired by street vendors as well for a small fee. Flip flops usually have the status of annual or seasonal, short lasting footwear in developed countries. Some of these shoes last a year or less depending on the material makeup of the shoe. After some use, the strap between the toes can break. A solution has been devised by employing replacement straps that are conveniently “snapped” into the flip-flop. Still, since these shoes are not very expensive, many people buy new pairs instead of repairing them.
If you enjoy being barefoot then Flip flops are ideal for you as they allow the foot to be out in the open but can be worn in places such as city streets or restaurants. There is a wide array of patterns and colors to choose from in Flip flops. So how about checking the range in outlets or online today?

Men’s summer shoes – Flip flops, thongs and Crocs

Men’s summer shoes – Flip flops, thongs and Crocs

Sandals are open, flat men’s shoes worn in the summer months and in warm weather.  We include flip flops, thongs and sandals in the same category.  They can be a staple in any man’s summer wardrobe which should include at least one pair of each!

Flip flops generally describe holiday shoes made from synthetic materials.  They have flat soles with a Y shape piece of fabric worn between your big toe and your next toe.  They are incredibly versatile shoes and you can choose from a massive range of colours and fabrics. They can be worn on the beach and are handy to kick off and leave at the edge of the beach while you take a dip.

We use the term thongs to describe more substantial leather type shoes.  They are the same style as flip flops, incredibly comfy, light to wear and light to pack in your luggage.  This is a bonus in a climate where airline prices and luggage charges are increasing. Birkenstocks have a good choice in men’s shoes and include an excellent choice of men’s thongs. The soles are designed for extra comfort and let your feet breathe.

Sometimes a style or brand of men’s shoes will become extremely popular and fashionable.  This has happened to Crocs. It’s now quite common to see a pair of Crocs amongst men’s Casual shoes. And it’s not surprising their popularity has grown over the last few years. Crocs are ergonomically designed, lightweight and antimicrobial- this means the shoes will help stop the growth of bacteria and fungi.  They are fantastic shoes to wear at the beach; excellent in a hot environment such as the Caribbean or just to wear for a day out at your nearest seaside destination. One pair is never enough. Buy a pair for walking along the promenade and another pair for walking around the local bars and taverns.  Crocs are fun and fashionable.  They are affordable, comfortable and can be washed, making them perfect men’s shoes.

Flip flops can damage your health

Flip flops can damage your health

Perfect for hot weather, they have been the fashion hit of the summer.
But doctors have warned flip flops can be as bad for your health as they are for your career.
Business chiefs said last month that wearing them to work was an invitation to be sacked.
Now medics have joined the attack by saying they can lead to joint pain, shin splints and twisted ankles.
Mike O'Neill, a Windsor-based foot surgeon who regularly treats patients with flip flop injuries, described them as 'dangerous'.
'Wearing flat shoes stretches the calf muscles hugely if the wearer is used to wearing a heel,' he said. 'It strains the achilles tendon and the back of the leg. Pain can start to develop after two weeks.'
He said the single thong between the toes offered the wearer 'no support'.
Doctors recommend that flip flops should be saved for the beach and replaced with shoes with backs or proper straps to hold the foot in place. Figures show that 55,100 men and women went to hospital with flip flop-related complaints in 2002.
Harley Street foot surgeon Barry Francis says he sees six patients a week with flat shoe injuries. 'The problems are down to overuse,' he said. 'When people wear flip flops all the time they are constantly scrunching their toes up into a claw.
'That can cause problems such as tendonitis and even shin splints. People go to work in them and stand in them all day. They are also extremely unstable so you are more likely to trip over and hurt yourself.
'Every shoe fashion causes problems to an extent although this one seems to be taking a while to subside.'
Another doctor reported a spate of injuries among women wearing another 'danger' shoe: the high heel.
'Women are dressing differently and a lot of them are coming in with high heel shoe injuries,' said Dr Rupert Evans, of the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. 'It has definitely been caused by the good weather, women being out and about and drinking more in the evenings.
'If a woman is tipsy and wearing a high heel she will be unstable. In the event of a fall the damage will often include a dislocation of the ankle, torn ligaments and even a break. These injuries are the equivalent of a serious injury from a rugby tackle.'
A spokesman for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents said: 'In this hot weather having your toes in the open air is obviously very attractive but people should be aware of what they are doing and where they are going as they are not suitable for every situation.'

Why flip-flops are bad for your feet

Why flip-flops are bad for your feet

You know summer has arrived when you start to see an abundance of flip-flops. But could these comfortable summer-time footwear be bad for you? The answer is yes, there are many problems with wearing flip-flops for an extended amount of time. While wearing them for short amount of times will usually do no harm, wearing them everyday could lead to foot problems. Wearing flip-flops often could put you at risk of straining tendons and inflaming ligaments in your foot. The worst flip-flops to wear are ones with no support, flip-flops with a support system are perfectly safe to wear for longer periods of time.

Wearing flip-flops can also alter the way you walk, which can lead to serious sole, heel, and ankle problems. Many flip-flop wearers scrunch their toes in order to grip the shoes while they walk, yet doing this can stretch the connective tissue that runs from your heel to toe. This causes inflammation, pain along the sole, heel spurs and tired feet in general. Researchers have also found that flip-flop wearers take shorter strides and turn their ankles inwards. This can cause long term ankle and hip problems. The best thing to do is get sandals with heel straps so you do not have to grip the flip-flops with your toes and turn your ankles inward.

Taking shorter steps also puts more stress on your body because you have to move more the walk the same distance. This could mean a higher risk of muscle and joint pain in the legs. Being over weight and wearing flip flops greatly increases your chances of running in to these problems. If you are already experiencing pain from wearing flip-flops then switch back to normal shoes with more support, the pain should subside. In a few cases foot and heel pain experienced from wearing flip-flops has led to more serious medical conditions such as arthritis or even a stress fracture.

This summer kick off the flip-flops, at least a few days a week. If not you may find yourself at the doctors office getting your feet examined, and no one wants to be doing that on summer break. If you are not completely ready to give up your flip-flop days opt for a pair of sandals with greater foot support and heel straps, this will save you the trouble of being in and out of the doctors office. Doctors say even walking barefoot is a safer alternative to wearing flip-flops.

Best Shoes for Knee Pain: Study

Best Shoes for Knee Pain: Study
Arthritis of the knee is common and a major source of disability and impaired quality of life, the researchers say. Shakoor's team evaluated 31 men and women who had knee arthritis, evaluating their gait as they wore:
•    Clogs
•    An athletic shoe that promises to minimize inward rolling of the foot
•    Flat walking shoes
•    Flip-flops
The study was supported by the National Institutes of Health.
Shakoor measured what's known as a knee adduction moment, "which measures the extent of the force upon your knee as you walk."
"Flat walking shoes, barefoot, and flip-flops were essentially the same in load on the knee," she says. "But clogs and stability shoes result in a 15% higher load."
"These are just initial studies, and it's too early to recommend [changes]," she says. "But several studies are suggesting that perhaps flat, flexible footwear may help decrease loads on the knee compared to footwear that is less flexible and has higher heels. Stability shoes have higher heels [than other athletic shoes]."
"We think it's the flatness and the flexibility that may provide the benefit."
And, she cautioned: "We are definitely not advocating flip-flops. A flat walking shoe would be better than a flip-flop for other reasons -- stability and the risk of falling."
Shakoor will continue her research. With Rush University and a podiatrist, she hopes to develop a walking shoe for people with knee arthritis. She says Rush will hold the patent.

Knee pain? Try wearing flip-flops, study suggests

Knee pain? Try wearing flip-flops, study suggests

Poor flip-flops. Popular though they are, they've been targets for criticisms of many types -- for their lack of arch support, for their potential tripping hazard, for their inability to protect foot skin from the sun and thus their theoretical elevation of foot-skin cancer risk (seriously). And who was to say the criticism was wrong? The shoes are cheap -- they have to be bad, right?

Not so.
Researchers at Rush University in Chicago analyzed the gaits of 31 people with osteoarthritis of the knee while the participants were walking barefoot and while they were wearing clogs, stability shoes, flat walking shoes and the much maligned (and generally inexpensive) flip-flops.
If the goal is to not increase pressure on the knee -- and people with knee osteoarthritis would wholeheartedly say that it is -- then walking barefoot, wearing flat walking shoes or simply slipping on thongs would appear to be the best choice. The same could not be said for clogs and stability shoes.
The researchers note that sole flexibility, like heel height, would seem to be important when choosing footwear.
Now if someone could only do something about that annoying flapping sound.
Here's the abstract as it appears in the journal Arthritis Care & Research and the release as it appears on ScienceBlog -- plus an earlier abstract from a similar study (also out of Rush). It found that a specialized shoe known as a mobility shoe tended to be kinder to the knees than a typical "walking" shoe.

Trouble afoot with flip-flops

Trouble afoot with flip-flops
Aching feet: It sounds like one of those middle-aged problems.
But these days, Dallas sports podiatrist Marybeth Crane is seeing "whole soccer teams of 16-year-old girls" complaining of the sort of foot pain she used to see mostly in "older, fatter" people.
The culprits aren't the girls' soccer cleats or even the high heels they break out on prom night. Instead, Crane blames their flip-flops — the flimsy, slip-on, toe-thonged sandals that girls and young women nationwide have adopted as their warm-weather, everyday shoe uniform.
"Flip-flops were never meant to be everyday shoes," says Crane, a spokeswoman for the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons "They were meant to wear from the locker room to the pool and back."
Marlene Reid, a podiatrist in the Chicago area, agrees: "Flip-flops are great for the beach as an alternative to being barefoot." For the rest of life, she says, "there are better choices."
The problem, foot doctors say, is that flip-flops offer little cushioning and no arch support, and they force their wearers into an unnatural, toe-gripping, foot-slapping gait.
Among the possible consequences:
•Sore arches and heels, which can progress to chronic conditions, including inflamed Achilles tendons and plantar fasciitis, inflammation of the connective tissue between the heel bone and the toes.
•Heel calluses (from the pounding).
•Hammer toes (from the gripping).
•Irritation between the toes (from the toe thongs), which can lead to nasty fungal infections.
Of course, flip-flops aren't the only popular shoes that can hurt your feet. Pretty little ballet flats and sky-high wedges, if worn too often or in the wrong circumstances, can cause just as much pain as classic trouble-makers such as stiletto heels, experts say. Even sensible, low-heeled, wide-strapped sandals can harm your feet if you wear the same pair every day from June to September.
A few tips for making it through the summer with feet that look good and feel good, too:
•Spend most of your time in sturdy shoes that offer heel and arch support. "If you can take the sandal or ballet flat and twist it into a little ball, that's a sign that they can't take everyday wear and tear," Crane says.
•Stick to heels — or wedges — of 2 inches or less, except on special occasions. A wedge may feel more stable than a heel of the same height, but it can put just as much pressure on your feet, knees and hips.
•Wear the right shoes at the right time. "If you are going to be involved in a sport or walking all day, wear shoes that are made for that," says John Anderson, an orthopedic surgeon in Grand Rapids, Mich., and spokesman for the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Societ
•Switch shoes daily, if possible, especially if you live in a humid climate. Even very comfortable, sensible shoes can grow fungus if they don't get a chance to dry.
•Buy shoes that fit and feel comfortable the first time you put them on. "The concept that you just have to break in a shoe is a fallacy. If the shoe is not comfortable, don't buy it," Anderson says.
•Put some sunscreen between those sandal straps. "People put it on their legs, completely forget their feet" and end up with badly burned feet, says Christian Robertozzi, a podiatrist in Newton, N.J., and president of the American Podiatric Medical Association

What are Flip Flop Slippers?

What are Flip Flop Slippers?

Flip flops and slippers are house shoes with a lot in common. Both are easy to put on and take off, serving as an easier alternative to most other styles of shoes. Both slippers and flip flops are designed for comfort, and they are also great for those who generally dislike wearing shoes. While slippers are generally worn indoors and flip flops are generally worn outdoors, flip-flop slippers can be worn anywhere.

Flip flops are very simple footwear made of only a strap and a sole. The soles are often spongy, absorbing the weight of the wearer’s foot. These shoes are great for warmer days, windy days and trips to the beach, since the open nature of the shoe allows the foot to get cool air. They are also often the cheapest footwear available.

Flip flop slippers attempt to improve the flip flop design by covering the flip flop with soft and comfortable material. The materials used for creating flip flop slippers includes sheepskin, hemp, wool and yak. Unlike the rubber that is used to make traditional flip flops, flip flop slippers are often made out of biodegradable materials, making them far more environmentally friendly. This footwear is much more comfortable than shoes, making them great for wearers relaxing in their pajamas.

Sheepskin is a very popular used for the creation of these slippers. Sheepskin is resistant to fire, electricity and cold temperatures. Sheepskin is also great for those who suffer from allergies. Some sheepskin is also chemically altered to make it resistant to moisture, which is great for flip flop slippers. Wearers can finally wear their slippers outdoors without worrying about damaging the slipper’s material.

One of the consequences of the added flip flop slippers material is the price. These slippers cost much more than flip flops generally cost. The lowest flip flop slipper price is usually around $20 US Dollars (USD), while most slippers were around $60 USD. They are often dyed with feminine colors, making them great women’s slippers.

Many flip flops are not healthy for their users’ feet. The flat nature of flip flops makes them very bad on the arch of the foot, possibly antagonizing injuries or pain related to flat feet. Flip flops are also bad for the tendons of the foot. Flip flop wearers should wear something else when they are in an environment where the feet need to be protected.

Aside from these dangers, flip flops do have some health benefits. Flip flop wearers have more oxygenated feet. Many of these flip flops come with sweat blocking anti-perspiring pads, making them great men’s slippers. Some flip flops have also been improved in order to provide users with shock absorption and arch support.

Should Men Wear Flip Flops?

Should Men Wear Flip Flops?

Judging by the number of blogs on men in flip flops, there is a universal school of thought that a male's feet are far too unpleasant to be exposed in public. Unless there is a very good reason for the stark sight of the masculine toe to ruin people's pavement eye levels, uncontained feet ought to be kept to polluting the nation's beaches. Wearing sandals with socks still has to be the biggest street crime, but baring ungroomed feet in cheap flip flops should surely carry some kind of community service.
Flip Flops on Women More Acceptable

One of the nicest things about Summer is the sight of a stream of women with beautifully manicured feet, showing off their polished toenails in a variety of classic feminine styles. It is an accepted norm that the female of the species can flip flop her way around a variety of places, and even at work. There is no social stigma or disapproving double take unless you are about to have a photograph taken with the President of the United States.

Flip-flops are a mainstay of summertime footwear, but they can be painfully bad for your feet and legs, new research shows.
Researchers from Auburn University in Alabama studied the biomechanics of the flip-flop and determined that wearing thong-style flip-flops can result in sore feet, ankles and legs.
“We found that when people walk in flip-flops, they alter their gait, which can result in problems and pain from the foot up into the hips and lower back,” said Justin Shroyer, a biomechanics doctoral student who presented the findings to the recent annual meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine in Indianapolis.
For the study, the researchers recruited 39 college-age men and women and asked them to wear flip-flops or athletic shoes. They then had them walk a platform that measured vertical force as their feet hit the ground. A video camera measured stride length and limb angles.
Flip-flop wearers took shorter steps and their heels hit the ground with less vertical force than when the same walkers wore athletic shoes. People wearing flip-flops also don’t bring their toes up as much as the leg swings forward. That results in a larger angle to the ankle and a shorter stride length, the study showed. The reason may be that people tend to grip flip-flops with their toes.
Mr. Shroyer notes that he himself owns two pairs of flip-flops, and the research doesn’t mean people shouldn’t wear them. However, flip-flops are best worn for short periods of time, like at the beach or for comfort after an athletic event. But they are not designed to properly support the foot and ankle during all-day wear, he notes.
